11:30 Flaming Feasts Series 2: 2. Llanberis R
From Yr Wyddfa’s summit to a whole-cow cookout, Chris brings fire and flavour to Llanberis
Chris returns to Llanberis for an episode rooted in history, community and the rugged character of the mountains. He begins high above the clouds aboard the Snowdon Mountain Railway, cooking Wales’s highest pancake with a bold mix of sweetness and heat, framed by sweeping views from the summit. He visits Pen y Gwryd Hotel, a landmark of mountaineering culture and the former base of the 1953 Everest expedition team. In the hotel’s atmospheric dining room, where the dinner gong still sounds each evening, Chris joins head chef Gareth Dwyer. Together, they prepare a robust dish that showcases the depth and quality of local mountain lamb. Back in the valley, Chris heads to Wavell’s Butchers in Llanrug to meet master butcher Bryn, who raises and cures his own pigs. Bryn shows him how to prepare a proper bacon chop. Chris heads to a spot overlooking the vast Dinorwig quarry – part of a Unesco World Heritage site. There, he grills his take on a traditional quarryman’s supper - a bacon chop with swede mash. The episode culminates with a tribute to one of the region’s most memorable community events: the legendary 1954 whole-cow cookout. At the Heights pub in Llanberis, Chris prepares for a 30-hour fire cook, building a vast roasting frame for the slow-cooked feast. Before lighting the flames, he meets locals who remember the original celebration marking the end of post-war rationing. Their stories and recollections set the tone for a meal that brings together history, shared pride and a strong sense of place. The result is a gathering that unites Llanberis across generations, honouring the past while celebrating the community’s enduring spirit.

It has been one of his most treasured possessions ever since. Fifty years older, he now returns to the island to find out more about this amazing creature and to see how the island has changed. Could the elephant bird's fate provide lessons that may help protect Madagascar's remaining wildlife? Using Zoo Quest archive and specially shot location footage, this film follows David as he revisits scenes from his youth and meets people at the front line of wildlife protection. On his return, scientists at Oxford University are able to reveal for the first time how old David's egg actually is, and what that might tell us about the legendary elephant bird.

15:50 Earth's Great Rivers Series 1: 2. Nile R
A look at the astonishing wildlife, landscapes and people of the Nile.
For a river that conjures up images of pyramids and pharaohs, the Nile turns out to be a truly surprising river that changes at every twist and turn of its journey. As its flows into increasingly arid latitudes on its journey north it becomes an evermore vital lifeline for animals and people, but only if they can conquer the challenges that this ever-changing river throws at them. The Nile's story begins in a spectacular, tropical mountain range - the Rwenzoris. Streams plunge from these snowy peaks creating wetlands on the plains below. Here they create a mobile water garden of papyrus reeds, home to one of the world's strangest birds- a shoebill stork. Though beautiful, clumps of reeds break up and float around creating a challenging environment for would-be fishermen. A stork's best way of finding prey is to form a rather strange alliance - wily shoebills follow hippos whose great bulk opens up fishing channels for them. The Nile's headwaters create huge lakes in the equatorial heart of Africa - everything here is on a vast scale, especially Lake Victoria which is the size of Ireland. Here vast swarms of lakeflies sweep across its waters on a biblical scale, providing an unexpected feast for local people who trap the insects to make 'fly burgers'. It is not just Lake Victoria's immense size which makes it so dramatic. The vast lake has only a single exit channel of ferocious white water - the aptly named White Nile. People come from around the globe to tackle the rapids here which are some of the most powerful and infamous in the world. A local heroine, Amina Tayona (a mum from a nearby village) is brave enough to ride them. Amina has learnt to kayak on these treacherous rapids - and now competes against international athletes. The next stage of the Nile's great journey are the wild Savannah lands of Uganda and the awesome spectacle of one the world's most powerful waterfalls, Murchison Falls. Here, valiant crocodile mothers try to defend their nest against hungry predators. Even though they are such fearsome predators - crocodiles have a weakness which other animals exploit. Watch as cunning Nile monitor lizards try to outwit an increasingly desperate Nile crocodile mother who faces a terrible dilemma. Further downstream is the setting for one of the episode's most surprising stories. Filmed for the first time using the latest camera-trap technology, cameras reveal strange goings-on at the abandoned country home of infamous and exiled dictator, Idi Amin. Its ruins are attracting new, wild guests. Many of Africa's big predators make their home here today. In South Sudan, the Nile river slows and spreads out transforming into a huge wetland - the Sudd (Arabic for barrier). Half of its water is lost due to evaporation here and this is before the river embarks on its epic crossing of the Sahara - a desert the size of China. Every year, the dwindling Nile receives a massive, timely injection of water far to the east. In the Ethiopian highlands, the Nile's greatest tributary - the Blue Nile - is swelled by the wet season creating some of the most turbulent and dramatic seasonal waterfalls on Earth and forming a spectacular gorge which is nearly as deep as the Grand Canyon. The Blue Nile is a river revered and used in a variety of incredible ways - from mass baptism ceremonies in the ancient Ethiopian city of Gondar to colonies of cheeky weaver birds who use the riverbank's reeds to build intricate nests. The Blue Nile replenishes the main Nile channel at the Sudanese capital city of Khartoum, the two become one and embark on the epic crossing of the Sahara. The miracle of the Nile is that it has allowed great civilisations to thrive in a desolate and arid region - today and throughout history. From the exotic city of Cairo, to the glories of ancient Egypt, breathtaking photography reveals the extent of the Nile's power to transport water from one part of world and deliver it to another, building and supporting life.

09:00 Harry Clark Goes to Rome R [AD][W]
Harry Clark embarks on a personal pilgrimage to Rome, where he attempts to meet the pope.
Blending warmth, wit and emotional honesty, Harry Clark Goes to Rome follows Harry’s personal journey to re-connect with his Catholic faith in these modern times. In this documentary, 25-year-old Harry Clark of BBC Traitors and Pilgrimage: The Road to the Alps fame embarks on a personal pilgrimage to Rome in search of answers about belief, identity and what it means to be a 'good' Catholic today. He also has an audacious quest to meet one of the most powerful figures in the world – and latest addition to his (spiritual) family – the recently appointed Pope Leo XIV. Living with his close-knit, real family in Slough, in the house where he grew up, Harry’s faith remains central to his life. But as the pace of modern living accelerates – pubs, clubs, media events, and relationships – his faith increasingly clashes with the traditions passed down by his mother and grandparents. Can belief survive modern life, and what does it mean to be a good Catholic in the midst of it all? For Harry, there is only one place that might offer answers – the home of the Catholic faith, Rome and the Vatican City. As he prepares for his pilgrimage, Harry talks to those closest to him: his family and friends, his childhood priest and the most important woman in his life – his mum, Georgia. Through these conversations, he explores what it means to be Catholic, is challenged about his lapsed habits and learns about traditional Catholic pilgrim practices – fasting, confession, visiting the tomb of a saint and saying a prayer for someone he loves in Rome. These lead to deeply personal insights into Harry’s life, including an emotional visit to his grandad, a former footballer who is currently battling dementia. Running parallel to this spiritual journey is Harry’s determined – and often comic – attempt to reach the man at the very top of the Vatican hierarchy, Pope Leo XIV himself. Through letters, phone calls, social media messages – and any other way he can think of – Harry pursues a meeting with the pope, despite the scepticism of those around him. Whilst undertaking a 24-hour fast and accompanied by his mum, they arrive in the holy city of Rome. Among nodding Pope figurines, al fresco dining and streets lined with tourists, devotees and religious figures, they explore important places of pilgrimage. But at the end of the first night, as Harry breaks his fast, he worries the experience isn’t bringing him any closer to God. At the pope’s Angelus in St Peter’s Square, Harry catches his first glimpse of Pope Leo XIV. He takes the opportunity to see if a member of the Swiss Guard can help him get closer to a meeting with the pontiff, but again he is unsuccessful. To find a deeper connection with his faith, Harry and his mum make an emotional visit to the tomb of 15-year-old millennial saint, Carlo Acutis, which raises difficult questions for them both, whilst a meeting with Sister Emanuela sees Harry nervously commit to undertaking his first private confession in nearly a decade. As the journey reaches its climax, Harry is granted a meeting with Cardinal Roche – a member of the conclave responsible for appointing the new pope. Here, Harry finds an opportunity to raise some of the wider questions he has about his Church. But will this meeting within the pope’s inner circle prove to be his chance to reach the very top of the Vatican and achieve what feels like a one-in-a-million moment? And what impact will this personal pilgrimage have on his faith and his understanding of what it means to be a modern Catholic?

10:00 Easter Sunday Service 2026 - Easter Day Service from Ripon Cathedral
Easter Day service, live from Ripon Cathedral.
A triumphant celebration of the resurrection of Jesus, with music, readings and prayers, from the gothic splendour of Ripon Cathedral in the heart of rural North Yorkshire. The service begins in the cathedral’s Saxon crypt (the oldest in England), where the Dean of Ripon, the Very Revd John Dobson, tells of the transforming moment of that first Easter morning, when Jesus overcame the powers of sin and death, giving hope and the promise of life to people in every generation. In her sermon, the Bishop of Ripon, the Rt Revd Anna Eltringham, reflects on the women being the first disciples to discover the empty tomb and encounter the risen Christ. The cathedral choir of boys and girls combine with brass and timpani to lead the congregation in a rich feast of Easter music. The communion is sung to the majestic setting of the Mass for Two Choirs, by Charles-Marie Widor (1844-1937), alongside popular Easter hymns and anthems, including: Jesus Christ is Risen Today; This Joyful Eastertide; Now the Green Blade Riseth; and Thine be the Glory.

13:30 Songs of Praise Easter Sunday
Pam Rhodes joins Christians in Cornwall for the raising of the Carn Brea Easter Cross.
To celebrate Easter Sunday, Pam Rhodes joins Christians in Cornwall marking 50 years of the Carn Brea Easter Cross. This giant 30-foot structure has towered over the landscape on a rocky outcrop each Holy Week since 1976, visible for miles as a symbol of Jesus’s resurrection and the hope of Easter. Pam meets Rodney Reed, who as a young Methodist youth worker first funded and erected the cross with his wife half a century ago. As the community gathers to raise it once again, Pam looks on and speaks with Martin and Andrew of Redruth Baptist Church, who now lead the tradition. They describe the cross as a signpost to reconciliation and a reminder of God’s love and say how privileged they are to continue Rodney’s legacy. In nearby Lostwithiel, we hear the remarkable story of Sarah Worne, who discovered a long-lost ten-foot painting of Jesus on the cross in her barn. Now housed in St Bartholomew’s Church, it depicts a serene, robed Christ. It was this sense of peace that struck the church’s priest, Sheila Bawden, when she first welcomed the painting. Together, Sarah and Sheila have become detectives, piecing together the story behind this striking depiction of Jesus. Finally, Pam joins Easter worship on Carn Brea beneath the towering cross, hearing what Easter means to the community. With hymns affirming the joy and shared hope of the resurrection: 1. Jesus Christ Is Risen Today – Canterbury Cathedral 2. There Is a Green Hill Far Away – St Martin’s Church, Stamford 3. Lift High the Cross – St Martin-in-the-Fields, London 4. Let the Lower Lights Be Burning – Mevagissey Choir, St Pol-de-Leon Church, Penzance 5. O Praise the Name – Guildhall, Londonderry 6. Thine Be the Glory – Chester Cathedral

14:05 Attenborough's Life in Colour Series 1: 2. Hiding in Colour R [AD][W]
How animals use colour to hide and disappear into the background.
David Attenborough reveals the extraordinary ways in which some animals use colour to hide and disappear into the background. New science reveals how the Bengal tiger in central India uses its orange-black stripes to hide from its colour-blind prey. In Kenya’s Masai Mara, the zebra’s black-and-white pattern confuses predators with an extraordinary effect called motion dazzle. And on the island of Cuba, a small snail uses colourful stripes in a surprising way to hide from its enemies. Other animals use colour to trick and to deceive. On Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, a blue-striped blenny uses colours to mimic other fish and launch a sudden attack. In the grasslands of Zambia, the chick of a pin-tailed whydah mimics the patterns of its nest mates to ensure that it is not detected as an impostor. And specialist cameras reveal how a tiny crab spider uses bright ultraviolet colours to lure in its victims.

18:00 Secret Garden Series 1: 1. Oxfordshire
David Attenborough reveals the hidden lives of animals whose home is a river garden.
David Attenborough reveals the secret lives of the animals that inhabit a wild, unruly garden straddling a tributary of the River Thames in Oxfordshire. A thousand-year-old mill house sits at the heart of this unusual garden. Owners Henry and Sara have learned to let much of their land go wild, creating a haven for wildlife and a stage for some remarkable nature stories. As the winter floods recede, a male kingfisher battles to survive, hunting through murky waters in the hope of winning a mate and raising a family in a hidden burrow only just above the river’s edge. A shy bank vole must evade a range of dangers – from robotic lawnmowers to predatory grass snakes – seeking safety, food and a place to rear her young. Otters and red kites patrol the river, day and night. And Doris – the garden mallard – must outwit predators and floodwaters as she shepherds her nine ducklings from their treetop nest to a life in the river below. As spring turns to summer, the garden erupts with new life. Mayflies rise en masse after years underwater. As the males dance above the lawn, a female has just one day to find a partner and lay eggs. Daubenton’s bats skim the river for insects, catching up to 3,000 a night. And Doris, despite being targeted by a hungry otter, manages to keep all nine of her ducklings alive. But this is a fragile Eden. A sudden downpour sends the river waters surging back into the garden. The kingfisher chicks face drowning in their burrow before they are ready to fly, and the vole must flee her flooded woodland. At least it’s nice weather for ducks. Through the eyes of Henry and Sara, beautiful cinematography and immersive storytelling, this episode reveals the astonishing resilience of Britain’s garden wildlife in the face of unpredictable change. It is a celebration of how leaving nature to its own devices can turn an ordinary patch of land into a hugely rich and highly rewarding wildlife refuge.

A dazzling trio of brooches catches jewellery expert Susan Rumfitt’s eye, including diamond crescent moons, bows, and a gold and ruby flower from Tiffany & Co. A busy roadshow leaves no time for Ronnie Archer-Morgan to put his feet up as he examines one of Liberty of London’s most iconic designs – a leather footstool in the shape of a rhinoceros by Omersa. A careworn character doll, monkey and lamb by collectable toy manufacturers Steiff catch Marc Allum’s attention. Justin Croft finds an early edition of one of the Brontë sisters’ most popular books, and Frances Christie is cheered by a beautiful seascape on a rainy Belfast day. Fiona Bruce discovers the drawings and research of unsung Irish botanist John Templeton, and art and painting expert Grant Ford shares works by his favourite Irish artists, Jack Butler Yeats and Sean McSweeney. Carole and Brian kick off the season with a range of jobs that can be done right now.
The days are longer and the weather is a little warmer, so that means Beechgrove Garden is back with weekly updates and expert advice for gardeners of all abilities and experience. Carole Baxter and Brian Cunningham are back at Beechgrove to kick off the season with a range of great jobs that can be done right now and that will make your own plot both productive and attractive. It's Easter weekend, one of the most popular times of the year to get out into the garden, so Carole is planting up an Easter container that will bring colour and joy to your garden, deck or doorstep for weeks to come. It wouldn’t be a series of Beechgrove Garden without a potato crop to plant and look forward to, so Brian and Carole will be planting a number of varieties. It has now been ten years since the garden’s stem bank border was started, and Brian is back in there to start some much-needed maintenance-pruning, with planting to come, that will refresh that part of the garden. The stem bank border contains plants that are known for their attractive stems and range of colours that look best in winter. Last year, some of the Beechgrove presenters took part in a competition to see who could plant the most productive border. This year, there is a new challenge, which Brian and Carole will be revealing. And a trip to Edinburgh to catch up with what George Anderson is doing in his own garden in Joppa, and there are the week’s usual handy hints.

09:30 Animal Park Summer 2023: Episode 10 R
Kate and Ben find out if love is in the air at the park.
In 2022, there was a milestone moment when Bart the capybara arrived. He was the first of his species to be under the care of the keepers, and as it's the world’s largest rodent, there was much excitement. Things have been turned up a notch now because a female has arrived, and that means one thing – the possibility of a giant rodent romance. Aella has arrived from a collection in Scotland, but this species originates from South America, where they live in large highly sociable groups. All points to these two getting along, but there is no guarantee. In their first outing, there doesn’t appear to be much of a spark. The keepers, concerned that they may be playing it cool and might be in need of some privacy, decide to rig cameras to see what they are like away from prying eyes. The next day, the keepers come in to review the footage, and they are amazed to discover this love story has certainly escalated. In fact, so much so that it’s enough to cause the keepers to blush! On the other side of the park, Kate heads to Koala Creek, but she is not there to meet those famous marsupials. She has come to be introduced to a bettong and a long-nosed potoroo, two species that have been badly affected by the Australian wildfires but now play a vital role in the recovery of those forests. Wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin switches to his macro lens to try and work out which spiders are boys, and which are girls, in a vital breeding programme, but he must be careful as the Desertas wolf spider is not only one of the rarest but is also venomous. Zoologist Megan McCubbin is an expert on native wildlife, and she and the keepers are desperate to know if any bats roost in and around the centuries-old house that sits at the heart of the park. With special low-light cameras rigged and an incredible bat detector that allows their high-frequency calls to be audible to us, they settle in for the evening. Amazingly, the bats begin to emerge, but how many different species can they detect?

23:00 Ambulance Series 16: 4. Down the Ditch R [W]
Paramedics race to help a farmer trapped after crashing into a ditch on a country lane.
Across rural Yorkshire, ambulance crews face a demanding start to the shift as multiple road traffic collisions unfold. Among them, Halifax crew Kanada and Chris help a farmer who has crashed into a dry-stone wall while on his way to feed his animals. Meanwhile, specialist paramedic Matt begins his shift in Sheffield, caring for another farmer who is experiencing memory loss after his vehicle overturned into a roadside ditch. It marks the start of a busy run of shifts for Matt, whose advanced skills mean he can treat a wide variety of conditions suffered by his patients – from road traffic accidents to supporting an elderly patient who is reaching the end of her life. Four hours into the shift, the team in control are grappling with an influx of emergency calls as demand on the service shows no signs of slowing. Crewmates Kanada and Chris are dispatched to Elland, near Leeds, to help a 64-year-old female who has tumbled off her mobility scooter and has already been waiting over 30 minutes for an ambulance. The crew arrive to find the patient surrounded by a crowd who have all stopped to help. Fortunately, aside from a bruised eye, the patient has avoided any major injuries. The crew decides it is safe to drop her off at home, where a freshly brewed cup of tea awaits. In Halifax, Siobhan and Ellie are dispatched to their sixth patient of the shift – a 91-year-old male coughing up phlegm. On arrival, it is clear the patient is very poorly and nearing the end of his life. After speaking with the nursing team and making him as comfortable as possible, the crew decide they can respect his wishes and keep him at home. At the start of a new day for Yorkshire Ambulance Service, call volumes are at a normal level. Heading up the critical care team is Matt. He is dispatched to a 96-year-old end-of-life patient who has fallen out of bed. After Matt and the team get the patient up off the floor, he supports the family, sharing his own experience of caring for his father and the lesson he learned about how important it was to take care of himself through the process. With the afternoon in full swing, Halifax crew Siobhan and Ellie are dispatched to a Category 2 COPD patient with low sats. After carrying out their assessments, Siobhan is concerned that the patient might be suffering from a mini-stroke and advises a trip to hospital to be on the safe side. She later shares how the job felt particularly close to home, as her own father suffered from a stroke just a week previously. Meanwhile, Kanada and Chris are diverted to a Category 1 patient with breathing difficulties – it turns out he is the same end-of-life patient Siobhan and Ellie attended the previous day. On scene this time, it is clear the patient’s symptoms have worsened, and the crew agree it is in his best interests to receive further investigations at hospital even though he had expressly stated he wanted to be left to die at home. 00:00 The Repair Shop Series 15: Episode 12 R [AD][S]
The team fix a unique lamp, some distinguished running shoes and a reel-to-reel recorder.
First to arrive in the barn is John Wilson from London, with a battered survivor of heady days in the capital for upholsterer Sonnaz and paper conservator Angelina. The unique lamp belonged to John’s close friend Brian, who used to host lavish cocktail parties in the 1980s in his Soho flat in London. Everything in his bijou apartment was designed around the lamp. It was a period full of happy times, but then the Aids epidemic hit. Tragically, Brian was diagnosed as HIV-positive, and John became his carer and companion. Brian passed away in the mid-1990s, but not before gifting the lamp to John. However, sadly, over the years, it has become brittle and broken. Sonnaz and Angelina pair up to repair the cracks, sourcing a suitable material to fill in what has been lost, and get the lamp ready for the big switch-on. Next comes Chris Gosling from Surrey, who brings in some shoes with a surprising past for the attention of cobbler Dean. Chris’s father, George, was a great athlete, being a training partner for Roger Bannister’s pace-setting runs when he broke the four-minute mile. He wore the shoes when running the mile, achieving an impressive time of four minutes and 12 seconds. But George kept his passion a secret, with Chris only finding out about his father’s talent after he died. Wear has brought the shoes to a standstill, but now a multiple marathon runner himself, Chris is determined to see the shoes right again. Dean turns his attention to fixing the tears and repairing the stitching before buffing these elite running shoes back to their very best. Sisters Sara and Simone have travelled to the barn from Somerset, with an inherited gem that needs Richard Talman’s gift for salvaging sparkly things. The brooch belonged to their step-grandmother Jean Bull, but they sadly never met her. Jean, along with many other women from the local area of Somerset, took a shopping day trip to Switzerland in 1973, but the plane crashed and sadly Jean lost her life along with 107 other victims. The sisters each inherited a brooch from her – a red one for Simone and a green one for Sara. They wore them proudly when visiting Switzerland on the 50th anniversary of the crash. But when they returned, Sara accidentally put her brooch through the wash, leaving it bent and with gems missing. Richard works tirelessly to get the precious costume jewellery back into shape and to restore its sparkle ready to dazzle again. Finally, of the many talents beneath the barn’s thatch, Michael Whitehead has come from Lancashire hoping electronics wizard Mark Stuckey can revive a retro audio device. The reel-to-reel recorder belonged to Michael’s father Alan, who sang in pubs and clubs across Greater Manchester, and who used the device to record songs and learn the words prior to his performances. When he died, the music, sadly, died too in the family. With his hopes set on hearing his dear dad’s voice again on the reels, it’s down to Mark to make things right. With broken belts, a melted transformer and motor, and a faulty circuit board, Mark has a major catastrophe on his hands. However, determined to get the reel-to-reel recorder working again, he pulls out all the stops for Michael to hear the precious sound of his crooner father once again.

Stacey and the team head to Milton Keynes to help Bianca and Ollie Parej, parents to five energetic children all under the age of nine, who are struggling to make their compact home work for their large family. Every room is overflowing with toys, clothes and storage cubes – nearly 100 of them – stacked and squeezed into every available corner. For Bianca, the clutter has become paralysing. She dreams of returning to work but feels unable to take that step until the home is under control. The couple have never been able to let go of items due to a ‘what if’ mentality in times of financial difficulty, but their stuff has now taken over precious space. As Stacey helps the family pack up every last item, the full scale of their challenge becomes clear. In the vast warehouse, their belongings are laid out like an installation of life with five young children. The Parej family have kept hold of every single one of their possessions, including hundreds of baby items, which tell the story of a couple who have worked tirelessly to keep their family afloat while navigating hardship. Emotional moments unfold as Bianca and Ollie reflect on the financial obstacles they have overcome, how redundancy forced them to rethink everything, and how they see their family life in the future. Back home, Rob works wonders on the small space, designing solutions that allow the family to live – and eat – together. He builds an ingenious pull-down dining table big enough to seat all seven Parejs, and in his biggest build yet, he constructs triple-pod beds for the three boys to maximise their small bedroom. He also creates a dedicated workspace for Ollie, ensuring he can concentrate without clutter consuming him. With two intense days in the warehouse, the family must make tough decisions. Will Ollie let go of half of his consoles? Will Bianca find the confidence and space she needs to return to work? And can the team transform this compact home into a calm, functional space that truly meets the needs of a family of seven?

02:05 Race Across the World Series 6: Episode 1 R [AD]
Five teams set off from Palermo on a 12,000km race to reach Hatgal in northern Mongolia.
Five intrepid teams embark on the journey of a lifetime, racing more than 12,000km across Europe and Asia, the largest continental area on earth. The route carves through eight distinctive countries: Italy, Greece, Türkiye, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia – each with its own language, culture and climate. In the most extreme race to date, conditions swing from 30°C Mediterranean heat to subarctic temperatures of -20°C. And they’ve got to do it all on a budget of less than £26 per person per day. The teams will race from Palermo on the island of Sicily all the way to the remote village of Hatgal on the shores of Lake Hövsgöl in northern Mongolia. Retracing parts of the ancient Silk Road, they will follow in the footsteps of traders who once connected the west and east across these vast, unforgiving landscapes. They will have to navigate their way from the bustling streets of Italy – one of the world’s most visited destinations – to one of its most remote, the windswept Mongolian Steppe. With smartphones, internet access and bank cards left behind, they are armed with nothing but the cash equivalent of flying the route. The race begins in the city of Palermo, the capital of the Mediterranean’s largest island and most conquered city in Europe. To reach the first checkpoint, teams must first travel through southern Italy. A ferry across the Tyrrhenian Sea could propel them straight to the vibrant city of Naples, or they could choose to travel by land through the rugged region of Calabria, passing hilltop hamlets and coastal enclaves, each with its own unique character. Once in Puglia, the race continues across the Adriatic towards the first checkpoint: Fiskardo on the island of Kefalonia. Childhood best friends from Liverpool, Jo and Kush, who are both 19, are the youngest duo in the race. Still living at home with their mums and fresh out of school, this is their first real taste of independence. Their Scouse charm and willingness to throw themselves into local life proves fruitful, but when they cross paths with another team, their laid-back approach gives way to a more competitive streak! Inseparable siblings Katie, 20, and Harrison, 23, from Manchester, may do everything together, but they could not be more different when it comes to the race. Accountant Harrison’s laser-like focus on the budget and high-paid work takes them to an upmarket cafe in Naples, leaving Katie to embrace whatever comes their way. Junior doctor Molly, 23, and her father Andrew, 54, have always been close, but as Molly prepares to begin her medical career, she wants to prove to her dad that she is more capable than he gives her credit for. Geography teacher Andrew’s desire to explore sees them head away from the main transport hubs and into a labyrinth of sea caves in Maratea. Puja, 31, and her cousin Roshni, 32, spent their twenties building successful careers and putting wanderlust on hold. Determined to stretch every penny, their plan to avoid pricey areas and expensive transport leads them towards a rural homestay and a more authentic Italian travel experience. Unlikely duo Mark, 66, and Margo, 59, have spent the past 40 years with a typically fractious in-law relationship. But after recently putting their differences aside in pursuit of a shared goal – caring for a loved one – they have developed a fondness for each other’s company. A slow start leaves them trailing the pack, exposing their very different approaches to the race. And when faced with expensive Italian accommodation, they’re forced to put their friendship to the ultimate test... sharing a double bed! The race will test the five teams both physically and emotionally, pushing them to their absolute limits. But with their feet on the ground and their eyes wide open, the rewards will be immense, and the memories unforgettable. Only one team can emerge victorious as they battle to be the first to reach the finish line and claim the £20,000 prize in their race across the world.

With daughters Eloise and Holly both heading off to university, Sharon and Brian dream of getting the house back in order for a long-overdue fresh start. Mum Sharon, who has ADHD, thrives when things have a place – but juggling life’s chaos means systems have slipped and the house has never had a proper clear-out. Daughter Holly, who is autistic, finds comfort in routine and familiar objects and feels overwhelmed by the house in its clutter-filled state. The whole family need help to get the house cleared and sorted. But before that can happen, the Allans must pack every one of their possessions into boxes, emptying their home entirely and revealing what lies beneath the chaos. As the team snoop around the house, they uncover dad Brian’s secret gadget habit. What began as an occasional treat has spiralled over the years – and the team soon discover that Brian’s love of gadgets may be rooted in growing up with very little, making owning new things feel like a kind of security he never had. In the warehouse, their belongings are unpacked to create a striking installation of their lives. The team discover mountains of possessions that have been stored away in the loft, including plenty of unopened gadgets in Brian’s section. Among them, Brian comes across something he never expected to find: a letter from his mum. After losing her at a young age, this discovery hits hard – a deeply cherished reminder of his past, tucked away and long forgotten. Emotional moments unfold as Sharon opens up about navigating ADHD while raising two daughters with very different needs, and Brian confronts both the scale of his gadget purchases and the emotional reasons behind them – as well as the impact it’s all had on the family’s space and finances. Back at the house, Rob sets to work creating a calm, organised home that supports both Sharon’s need for structure and Holly’s need for predictability. He builds a multifunctional office-craft space for Sharon and transforms the girls’ rooms so they can return home from university to spaces that actually work. After two long days at the warehouse, the Allans make tough decisions about what stays and what goes. With only the essentials and their most cherished items chosen – including Brian’s treasured letter – Stacey and the team race to finish the transformation before the family’s return. Will the Allans finally achieve the fresh start they have been dreaming of? And will Brian be ready to part with at least some of his gadgets?

02:50 Harry Clark Goes to Rome R [AD][W]

Kate and Ben play Cupid for a pair of fennec foxes.
Visitors to the Africa Reserve at Longleat enjoy an idyllic scene of zebra, giraffe and ostrich that could rival the African savannah. These amazing views are in fact the culmination of years and years of careful planning and breeding to retain animals’ bloodlines to form a back-up, should the worst happen to the wild population. We discover the length keepers go to when matchmaking these vital pairings. There has been a new arrival at the park - Enzi, a male fennec fox. He is going to join a female called Zuri, but the keepers are keeping a lid on their excitement for now because poor Zuri has been unlucky in love. A couple of summers ago, things were looking great for Zuri and her partner Anthony, but their happiness didn’t last long. Zuri’s first litter of cubs died, and a few months ago Anthony also died. These cute creatures mate for life in their north African homelands, so Zuri took the loss of her mate hard, but this summer the keepers are determined to give this story the fairy-tale ending it deserves. Initially, all they observe is Enzi being more interested in his stomach than Zuri, so they rig cameras to find out what happens after dark. The footage reveals some good interactions, which means they can move ahead with phase two - a makeover to transform their enclosure into a love nest. Will it do the trick? Wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin loves a challenge, which is why he is taking on Longleat’s legendary Animal Park keeper Ian Turner in a photography competition. Ian has been taking thousands of photos of the animals at the park, and many of them capture their funny side. How will Hamza get on when he attempts to coax some amusing play out of the lions? Providing fresh leaves and branches for the African colobus monkeys to eat in the winter months is always a challenge. Zoologist Megan McCubbin helps with an experiment that aims to provide fresh food all year round, but what will the monkeys make of it?

20:00 The Repair Shop Series 16: Episode 1
The team fix a historic women’s football scrapbook and a trailblazing ballerina's shoes.
First into the barn is former serviceman Mike Webb, with an extraordinary piece of exploration history: a model Range Rover commemorating the first successful vehicle traverse of the American continent, all the way from Alaska to Cape Horn. At the age of just 21, Mike was part of a six-man military team tasked with driving two brand new Range Rovers 18,000 miles through some of the world’s toughest terrain. Their greatest challenge was the notorious Darién Gap – 250 miles of dense jungle, swamp and mountains between Panama and Colombia – which no vehicle expedition had ever successfully crossed. Mike’s model was awarded to him to mark this historic expedition, but it has been left battered and broken by years of family handling. It is now down to toy restorer Charlotte Abbott to get it back to its best so it can once again stand as a fitting tribute to the incredible achievement it represents. Second to arrive is former ballerina Julie Felix, with the tan pointe shoes she wore during her landmark performance at the Royal Opera House. She tells Lucia and Dean how she became Britain’s first professional Black ballerina, driven from childhood by her mother’s unwavering belief in her talent. After being denied a contract in London because of her skin colour, Julie found opportunity with the pioneering Dance Theatre of Harlem, moving to New York for seven years. When the company later performed in London, she wore these shoes in her first professional solo role on a UK stage. As Dean begins restoring the fragile, 40-year-old satin shoes, he struggles to achieve the precise skin-matched tone. He recruits textile expert Rebecca Bissonnet, whose deep knowledge of colour chemistry helps bring the delicate dye work safely back to life, preserving a symbol of Julie’s groundbreaking journey. Gail Nesham arrives at the shop with a fragile 1917 scrapbook documenting the rise of the groundbreaking Dick Kerr Ladies, the munitions factory football team who became global pioneers of the women’s game. As Gail explains how the team raised wartime morale, dominated the sport and defied the FA’s 1921 ban that sidelined women’s football for nearly 50 years, bookbinder Chris Shaw discovers the volume is on the brink of collapse – loose pages, torn articles and no spine. Determined to preserve this rare record, he begins the delicate task of dismantling and repairing the scrapbook to safeguard its legacy. Last to arrive is Fenella Haffenden, with a cherished clockwork birdcage once treasured at her grandmother’s home in Jersey. Born profoundly deaf, Fenella grew up mesmerised by the bird’s movements but unable to hear its song. After receiving a cochlear implant 20 years ago, she longs to finally experience the sound she missed as a child. But the once-gold cage is shabby, and the mechanism no longer sings or moves correctly. Mechanical expert David Burville takes on the delicate task of stripping the cage, restoring the brass, and repairing the intricate clockwork so the bird can perform beautifully once more.

21:00 Ambulance Series 16: 5. Lost in the Woods
Paramedics can’t find a young patient reported to be having a seizure in a wood.
Helping to care for the five million people of the Yorkshire region today are crewmates Sam and Sophie. They have had a challenging start to the shift as their first job has required them to trek on foot through a forest in Bingley to locate a teenage patient suffering a seizure. Meanwhile in Huddersfield, community first responder Roy is booking on – the 74-year-old is one of 900 volunteers trained to administer life-saving treatment across the region. Also on shift are crewmates Jordan and Josh. They are on their way to an 85-year-old female with chest pains when they are diverted to what they are told is a Category 1 call for an unconscious male patient in Halifax. However, the crew quickly realise the patient is in fact a regular caller to the ambulance service, who is conscious and complaining of some chest pain. In the last 30 days alone, he has made 25 separate calls to the ambulance service. After carrying out their necessary checks, the crew advise that it would be best if the patient agreed to be seen at hospital to rule out a heart attack – an offer he refuses. As Jordan and Josh make their referrals, the 85-year-old patient with chest pains they were diverted from earlier is reassigned to community first responder Roy. While he awaits a crew for back-up, Roy carries out his assessments on the patient, calming her nerves, which helps bring down her blood pressure. After the crew arrive to begin treatment, Roy makes himself useful by rustling up a cup of tea for the patient – who tells him he has made it with not quite enough milk! After Jordan and Josh go to their vehicle to update the clinical team that their patient is refusing to attend hospital, they return to his home and are surprised to find that he has changed his mind again and now accepts the offer of a trip to hospital. Before setting off, the crew help him get ready by combing his hair, and he tells them that he once worked with the rescue service in Morecambe. The team in control are back for another 12 hours, and on the road, crewmates Jordan and Josh are also booking on for another day shift. It’s a busy start to the day – 300 emergency calls have been received in the last three hours, and demand is continuing to rise. A new call is received for a female patient in Runswick Bay who has fallen and has a suspected broken leg. Due to the remoteness of the location, the team in control contact the coastguard to help track her down quickly. Meanwhile, a second call is received for a male patient who has fallen off his bike at Scammonden Reservoir; Jordan and Josh are dispatched. The patient has already waited 40 minutes for help, and it will take them another quarter of an hour to arrive. When they reach the patient, it is clear that his condition is deteriorating quickly, so the crew call for back-up to assist with extricating him from the remote location. In Huddersfield, community first responder Roy is allocated to a Category 2 patient suffering with stroke-like symptoms. He is running 15 minutes ahead of the closest available ambulance crew and is quick to carry out a stroke test on the patient to help determine the cause of her right-sided weakness. Once the crew arrive, it’s agreed the safest thing to do is to take the patient to hospital as quickly as possible for treatment. This episode shines a light on the unique challenges of delivering emergency care across one of the largest and most geographically diverse counties in the country. Across this vast area, the ambulance service often needs to rely on a network of trained and specialist volunteers. Community first responders, mountain rescue teams and even the coastguard play a vital role when ambulance crews are delayed, diverted or struggling to reach patients in difficult terrain. These volunteers are not just offering support, they are often the first calming presence, the first medical assessment and, at times, the first lifeline a patient receives.

00:45 Murder Case The Hunt for Arlene Fraser's Killer: Episode 1 R [AD][W]
Elgin, 1998. Police begin to piece together clues when a mother vanishes from her home.
On 28 April 1998, two children came home from school to an empty house. Their mother, 33-year-old Arlene Fraser, had simply vanished. What began as a missing person report rapidly escalated into one of Scotland’s most complex and high-profile investigations. As the days passed and fears for Arlene increased, the spotlight fell on the quiet town of Elgin in north east Scotland. Rumour, suspicion and media scrutiny intensified, particularly when the troubled reality of Arlene’s marriage to local businessman Nat Fraser came to light. Arlene's disappearance split the town in two, with many believing that she had just walked out of a troubled marriage and started a new life far from Elgin, while others thought that she had been kidnapped and killed. It was a mystery that the police struggled to solve, with no clues, evidence or witnesses, and the main suspect having a perfect alibi. However, no-one could have foreseen the labyrinth of twists that would follow: unusual police tactics, surprise arrests, a new and unexpected witness, and a decades-long legal struggle that would make the case one of the most controversial in Scottish criminal history. Arlene’s sister speaks powerfully about the family’s desperate search for answers. Police officers at the heart of the inquiry, including one of the first on the scene, reveal what they found inside Arlene’s eerily silent home and how the earliest clues, from a burnt-out car to the mysterious reappearance of Arlene’s wedding rings, began to shape the investigation. Journalists who followed every twist of the story share how the case gripped the nation and how public suspicion evolved. The programme also features a striking account from an investigative journalist who confronted Nat Fraser directly, asking him outright whether he had anything to do with Arlene’s disappearance. The story unfolds through new in-depth interviews and revealing archive as we chart the relentless determination of detectives and Arlene’s devoted family as they fight for answers, justice and the truth behind a mystery that refuses to fade.

20:00 Race Across the World Series 6: Episode 2
The teams enter their third country as they race through Greece to reach Istanbul.
BBC One’s much-loved, BAFTA winning series Race Across the World returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer for its sixth series. Five intrepid teams set off on the journey of a lifetime, racing more than 12,000km across southern Europe and central Asia. The route carves through eight unique countries: Italy, Greece, Türkiye, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia – each bringing its own language and culture. In the most extreme race to date, conditions swing from 30-degree Mediterranean heat to subarctic temperatures of -20°C. With smartphones, internet access and bank cards left behind, they are armed with nothing but the cash equivalent of flying the route. In the second episode, the race to Hatgal is well under way. Leaving behind the tranquillity of the Ionian island of Kefalonia, the pairs must race towards one of Europe’s biggest and most populous cities, Istanbul, where Europe and Asia collide. To get there, teams could strike north through Greece’s mountainous mainland, experiencing rural life along the way, or they could head via the ancient capital, Athens, before ferry-hopping across the Aegean Sea into western Türkiye. Katie and Harrison’s hopes of a swift getaway quickly grind to a halt as they fall foul of rural Greece’s infrequent public transport system. Harrison’s determination to protect the budget at all costs causes Katie to notice a change in her brother’s behaviour, calling their differing race priorities into question. Scouse best friends Jo and Kush feel the lure of Greece’s iconic sandy beaches and plot a route via the idyllic island of Lesbos. A job with a local fisherman’s family prompts the pair to reflect on their own upbringing, but after making progress, a late wake-up and a desire to savour the journey causes their race plans to come unstuck. Andrew and his daughter Molly, from a rural village in Northern Ireland, plot a scenic route along Greece’s rugged eastern coastline. As they head north, geography teacher Andrew can’t resist the opportunity to take a detour and explore geological marvel Mount Olympus. Molly, however, grows increasingly frustrated, questioning whether Andrew’s curiosity is costing them valuable time in the race. Mark is determined to take his sister-in-law Margo to fulfil one of his lifelong dreams , a visit to the monasteries of Meteora. As they travel across country, a chance encounter with a local prompts Mark to reflect on the last few years of his life. Puja and her cousin Roshni are eager to learn from the mistakes that cost them time on the first leg. With a new strategy and the determination to climb up the leader board, they choose to prioritise speed over anything else. While waiting for a ferry, their ingenuity and perseverance finally pay off when they secure work against the odds.

22:40 Cannabis Cove: Operation Seal Bay Series 1: 1. Mystery on the Beach R
A Welsh fishing village finds itself at the centre of a massive drug smuggling ring.
In 1983, a strange discovery disturbed a small fishing town in west Wales. When locals joined forces with the police to solve the mystery, they stumbled onto something far bigger than anyone could have imagined. The investigation that followed led rural detectives on their biggest-ever case as they began to unravel one of Britain’s most audacious - and strangest – drug-smuggling conspiracies: Operation Seal Bay. The story begins with a local farmer discovering – by chance – a hidden glass hatch on a remote beach near the quiet fishing town of Newport, Pembrokeshire. When he opened it up, there was a ladder going 6ft down into a large, underground chamber below the shingle. The walls were waterproofed with fibreglass resin and wooden struts shored up the walls. This secret cavern also contained brand new marine equipment, boat engines and food. What happened next was a rip-roaring caper that sent Welsh detectives on an international investigation to the Isle of Man, France, Spain, Denmark and Morocco as they uncovered more and more clues. It evolved into an adventure that took in sailing yachts, speed boats, supercars with hidden panels, mansions with buried treasures and a cast of eccentric characters with extraordinary pasts, including an ex-public schoolboy yachtsman, a Rolls-Royce-driving playboy and a mysterious Dane nicknamed 'The Man with the Rubber Face'.

01:20 Kegworth: Flight to Disaster R [AD][W]
A passenger flight from London to Belfast ends in motorway horror.
It should have been a routine flight from London to Belfast. But on a January night in 1989, British Midland Airways Flight BD092 became the centre of one of Britain’s worst air disasters. Mid-flight, the plane started violently shuddering. With smoke and smells of burning, pilots shut an engine down and diverted for an emergency landing in the East Midlands. Yards from the safety of the runway, the plane plunged into an embankment at the side of the motorway. Despite catastrophic damage and wreckage drenched in aviation fuel, remarkably rescuers found survivors. Through deeply personal interviews, passengers recount the terror of those final moments and the unimaginable aftermath. Coming just weeks after a bomb destroyed the Pan Am 103 jet over the Scottish town of Lockerbie, air crash investigators scrambled to find a cause for the disaster. Rare archive footage and expert analysis uncovers the chain of decisions that sealed the fate of 47 passengers and injured dozens more. How did a routine flight turn into a catastrophe? And what lessons were carved from the wreckage to make flying safer today? From the terror in the cabin to the heroism on the ground, this is the story of the Kegworth air disaster, the crash that changed aviation forever.

Her labour of love started with a chance encounter with a raccoon. Today, she provides sanctuary to a host of animals, including apes, monkeys and mountain lions, all with little to no hope of ever being returned to the wild. Largely self-funded, the centre consumes every part of Lindsay’s life. She lives on site, rarely leaves and devotes everything she has to caring for animals others have left behind. Now, she is determined to take her fight further, campaigning for a change in the law and petitioning Parliament to make the sale of wild animals illegal. Bill pairs Lindsay with fellow animal lover Ricky Wilson. Before becoming the frontman of the Kaiser Chiefs, Ricky trained as an artist and taught art at university. He still paints for relaxation while on tour. Ricky soon faces an artistic dilemma. Lindsay wants the portrait to focus on the animals she has dedicated her life to. But Ricky believes that it is Lindsay herself who is truly extraordinary and should be at the centre of the painting. Can he find a way to honour her wishes while staying true to his own artistic instincts?

Beechgrove Garden is looking ahead to summer days in the garden, with Lizzie Schofield back to work in the sitooterie area she started off last year as a place ideal for sitting out and enjoying the garden. This week, she prunes and plants in the same area to get it looking great for the good days ahead. Brian Cunningham is back to basics with a beginners' guide to starting off a productive veg plot with some spring sowing, and he also looks at what makes a great homemade compost. Lizzie takes on the tomato plants this year at Beechgrove, and she is looking at what varieties she has picked for 2026. She is also the first of the team to start work on her competition garden, which is based on planting that appeals to one of the senses. Brian is in the 6x8 greenhouse, and there is a trip to Dumfries for the latest from Colin Crosbie’s garden. This week's handy hints are all about what you should be doing with your dahlias right now.
