  9. 14:00 Natalie Cassidy: Caring Together Series 1: Episode 7 [AD]

Dementia hits home as Natalie steps into a world of confusion, care and connection.

Natalie heads into one of the most emotional weeks of her course so far, dementia care. On her way to class, she’s already thinking about her agent Scott, who was married to Barbara Windsor. Watching their journey with dementia from a distance has stayed with her, and she’s keen to find out how Scott looked after Barbara as the disease took over. In college, the group are introduced to dementia care before they leave the classroom. Anna’s dementia friends session sets the context, followed by a session on board an immersive dementia bus. Natalie is paired with Scarlett, and they’re guided through the bus experience by Michael, who is running the session as a roleplay. He’s sharp with them at first, which unsettles her. Inside the bus, the experience becomes increasingly disorientating: distorted vision, altered sounds, and everyday tasks suddenly feel confusing and difficult. It’s uncomfortable and overwhelming for them both. When they leave, Michael steps out of role and explains what the exercise was designed to show. The conversation that follows brings things into focus for the class, especially for those with personal experience of dementia in their families. In Carrickfergus, we meet Lenny the dementia-friendly barber. He provides a very special service to local care homes, bringing his 1950s music and familiar grooming rituals with evocative scents and sounds. It gives the men he sees each week something recognisable and comforting as they spend time in the barber’s chair. Natalie grabs a catch-up with Scott, and they talk about caring for Barbara at home. He speaks about the promises you make to look after someone and the moment it becomes clear that continuing at home in the same way is no longer possible. He’s open about the guilt experienced but also the eventual acceptance that moving into specialist care is the right decision. Natalie heads north for her next placement at the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Lodge dementia unit. She’s not sure what to expect, but a purple-themed party brings music and dancing, with residents like Peter immersed in the moment. As the evening approaches, staff begin to guide residents towards their night-time routine. Natalie is asked to change into pyjamas too. It feels unexpected, until Amy explains it simply – the importance of meeting residents where they are and following their reality rather than expecting them to follow yours. As a calmness descends over Poppy Lodge, Natalie joins Monica, helping Amy to get her ready for bed. As she does, she’s reminded of caring for her dad and the small things that came with that time. Natalie recognises what a tough but rewarding job working in dementia care is. But she also sees it as one full of connections and wonders if maybe this is the area of care she might find herself in when she finally graduates.

  19. 20:00 MasterChef Series 22: Episode 19 [AD]

It’s finals week, and four cooks battle it out for the ultimate prize.

Six weeks of fraught competition have produced four exceptional amateur cooks, who all stand a chance of being enlisted into the MasterChef hall of fame. They are about to embark on the culinary trip of a lifetime, where they will experience a culture and cuisine full of life, beauty and exceptional talent on the Caribbean paradise of Antigua and Barbuda. The final four begin their culinary tour in Nelson’s Dockyard. Now a Unesco World Heritage Site, this historic location is the perfect place to kick off their adventure. To get the cooks immersed in the local cuisine, Anna and Grace have invited 20 locals for a barbecue feast of traditional Antiguan dishes. Working with unfamiliar ingredients and recipes is a huge ask for the final four, so to help them along, local executive chef Maurine Bowers has agreed to come and guide them. Antiguan cuisine is a true melting pot and includes influences from African, British, Spanish and indigenous cultures, including the Caribs and Arawaks. This results in vibrant, diverse dishes packed with flavour, and the locals are very passionate that their dishes are delivered authentically. Given that the amateur recipes include local favourites such as ducana sweet potato dumplings and Antigua’s national dish, pepperpot stew, all of which require a deft hand when it comes to technique and seasoning, it will take every ounce of skill and culinary intuition for the cooks to win over the hearts of today’s diners, as well as judges Anna and Grace, who will be scrutinising the finalists’ every move. Having gained some local culinary know-how, the four amateurs will next venture to the stunning location of their second challenge, where they will have their first shot at local fine dining at the Estate House within the five-star Jumby Bay Island Resort. This exclusive restaurant incorporates French technique with contemporary Caribbean cuisine under the helm of celebrated Antiguan chef Eustace Cabral Jr. Each of the finalists will be preparing a dish from the exclusive dinner menu, which celebrates the finest local produce such as grouper, goat and breadfruit, and will need to ensure every element is treated with the utmost care and respect and delivered in ways that draw out maximum flavour. Anna and Grace will also be dining and hoping that the finalists can live up to their expectations and prove why they were chosen as the final four. The Caribbean journey will end with one final task at the resort, where the contestants will work as private chefs for a VIP dinner being hosted in one of the resort's most exclusive private villas. Guests include cricketing legend Sir Viv Richards and deputy governor-general of Antigua and Barbuda Sir Clare Roberts, KCN, QC, so this is truly a time when the finalists need to be on their A-list game. Inspired by their time in Antigua and Barbuda, each of the cooks has designed a course for the menu. It is the first time on this trip that they are responsible for their own food, which must not only look and taste great and be jam-packed with technical prowess but should also be a celebration of their surroundings alongside some of their own personality. A mammoth task indeed. The judges will be taking notes too, as soon they will be choosing their winner. Any championship-worthy mouthfuls will live long in their memory and no doubt stand those cooks in good stead.

  26. 00:30 MasterChef Series 22: Episode 16 R [AD]

It’s semi-finals time, and the eight remaining home cooks are ready to battle it out.

It’s semi-finals time, and the eight remaining cooks are ready to battle it out for a chance at victory. As Anna and Grace ramp things up with their biggest challenges yet, each of the contestants aims to keep their track records in check and stay on course for MasterChef stardom. Sadly, it will mark the end of the road for one, leaving just seven still in the race. First up, it’s off to the National Rail Museum in York, where they are celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway. There, a banquet is being held for 100 railway staff, volunteers and enthusiasts. Anna and Grace have arranged for the event to be catered for by the eight semi-finalists, but fine dining on this scale for 100 guests is beyond anything they have faced before. Success comes down to detailed planning and some serious graft. To add extra pressure, the celebratory menu has been designed by Anna, who is also running service, and the amateurs work in teams to deliver an exceptional starter, main course and dessert for the banquet. It goes without saying that each of Anna’s dishes is packed with demanding technique and elements that require the utmost care. Anna won’t be pleased if any of the expensive produce, including venison loins and cod fillets, goes to waste. Much like the railway network, everything must run like clockwork and be on time. Every move the semi-finalists make is scrutinised by the judges. At the end of the challenge, Anna and Grace decide which team was the strongest, and they head straight through to the next round, leaving the other two teams with one final chance to impress. Back at MasterChef HQ, they battle as individuals to keep their place in the competition. Anna and Grace’s brief is an Invention Test - they ask the semi-finalists to cook one dish that celebrates one of the three main ingredients used at the railway banquet: cod, venison and rhubarb. However, they cannot use the ingredient they worked with previously. They have just 90 minutes to deliver a flawless dish that wows the judges. As results day looms, months of effort hang in the balance for Natalie.

Nine months after walking into college for the first time, Natalie is coming to the end of her course. There’s an exam ahead, and she’s feeling nervous. She’s fitted this around work, family life and everything else, and now it all comes down to one final test. But this week isn’t just about passing or failing. A session on end-of-life care brings everything back to her dad. Talking with a hospice bereavement counsellor, Natalie opens up about those last days and what it meant to care for him at home. As she shares her story, hugs and tears follow. Spending time at Garden House Hospice on placement gives her a clearer sense of what that kind of care looks like day to day. It’s gentle and centred around the person and the people supporting them. Natalie meets Kent, who is living with motor neurone disease, and is struck by his positive outlook and the way he approaches life. In the hospice gardens, families gather for a remembrance service. Everyone there has their own story. It’s a space to reflect and remember, and to be alongside others who understand. Throughout the series, Natalie has seen the work of people and projects across Northern Ireland. This time, she heads to Belfast. In Stormont, music brings people together – a collaboration that means something different to everyone taking part. For some, it’s about loss, but for others, connection, or simply being part of something. There’s a strong sense of togetherness in the room. With the exam done and dusted, it’s now a waiting game. When results day finally arrives, Natalie returns to find out how she’s done, alongside the classmates she’s shared this experience with. Whatever the outcome, this journey has gone further than she expected. It’s taken her back to her dad, opened up conversations she hadn’t had before and shown her the reality of care in all its forms. And as this chapter comes to a close, one thing is clear – this doesn’t feel like the end of the road for Natalie. It's more like the start of something she wants to keep building on.

The finals continue with the last four chefs back in the UK.

The finals continue with the last four chef back in the UK, where they take on their biggest task to date – a task that would cause even professional chefs to quake in their aprons: Chef’s Table. This is followed by their most important cook-off to date as the contestants fight for a place in the final. Only three of them can make it, meaning one must say goodbye to their hopes of being crowned champion. Chef’s Table is first on the agenda, and Anna and Grace have whisked the final four off to Opheem, a two-Michelin-starred Indian restaurant in the heart of Birmingham. They are put through their paces by chef patron Aktar Islam, who has designed a menu for the guests – six of the nation’s greatest chefs who hold a magnificent eight Michelin stars between them, including Daniel Clifford (Midsummer House, two stars), Nieves Barragan (Sabor, one star, and Legado, one star) and Paul Ainsworth (No6, one star). This is the first time any of the amateurs have prepared food at this level. They have just hours to master the techniques required and will need to adhere to the same standards as any professional chef working in Aktar’s kitchen. The finalists take on one course each that includes a sand carrot prepared in eight ways, monkfish cooked delicately over coals and a venison course that has a to-do list as long as the saddle itself. Each plate also requires impeccable working methods and processes to be adhered to, as well as perfect attention to detail. The pressure is immense, not to mention that the amateurs are cooking for some of their idols. Anna and Grace hope to taste some of the finalists’ best food to date. Having had what must undoubtedly be the experience of a lifetime, the finalists need to compose themselves, as next up is their most important cook-off yet. This is the time to prove themselves, as they now have to fight for a place in the final cook-off, and there’s only space for the best three. Anna and Grace’s brief is for the amateurs to cook one dish: a classic but with their own twist. Classics carry that name for a reason: they are tried, tested and loved the world over, so any tweaks by the finalists must be done with caution. Play it too safe, and the cooks risk flying under the radar, but taking too many risks could ruin the essence of the dish. It’s a tough call for the chefs, who attempt to do their own version of some of the world’s best-loved dishes, including buffalo wings, coq au vin and a classic pasta dish that is bravely tested with Thai flavours. It’s for Anna and Grace to decide who stays as one chef says their goodbyes. The three remaining can rest easy for now, but they will need to get match-fit again pretty sharpish, as the biggest day of their lives is just around the corner. The MasterChef final is up next, and one of these three exceptional cooks will be crowned champion.

  20. 21:00 Reported Missing Series 5: 2. Extortion? R [AD]

Fears grow for a missing student under threat and a young hiker lost in the mountains.

Police in Edinburgh receive a call from a university reporting that the family of 19-year-old international student Xiaoqiang have been unable to reach him for the past five days and are becoming increasingly worried. A call to Xiaoqiang’s mother in China soon reveals why she is so worried - they are a wealthy family, and Xiaoqiang has been asking her for unusually large sums of money. As soon as Xiaoqiang is made high risk, police trace his phone to a location in Durham. Further enquiries suggest he is in a hotel, and officers from Durham Police are sent to check, quickly locating Xiaoqiang in a hotel room. Xiaoqiang tells them that he is fine, and that he just wants some peace from his ‘controlling’ mother. He doesn’t appear to be at risk, and as he is an adult, police can declare him safe without needing to notify his family of his whereabouts. Edinburgh Police initially believe that to be the end of the story, but ten days later, they are alerted that Xiaoqiang’s family have once again reported him missing. This time, his mother has come in person to the police station, along with his UK-based cousin Xin Yu and a translator. Xiaoqiang has not been answering calls, but this morning his mother received an alarming video clip from him in which he appears to be crying, with his bloodied head in a bandage and describing being taken to a warehouse and beaten. He pleads with his mother to transfer money or the people who are threatening him ‘will cut off his fingers’. While Xiaoqiang’s mother is consumed with fear for his safety, police urgently need to get to the bottom of the video. Xiaoqiang’s mother is convinced that he is being extorted, but when Chief Inspector Hamilton analyses the video, he spots that it has been filmed in the same hotel room that he was in during the previous missing case. Police urgently need to find Xiaoqiang to determine what is really happening, and whether he is at serious risk of harm. A team from Durham races to the hotel, but the mystery only deepens when they find the hotel room empty. In Glasgow, another mother is worried that her son may be in danger. Twenty-year-old Daniel has failed to return after leaving to go hiking in the mountains, and it is now almost night-time. Beyond knowing that he was planning to drive for around an hour to get to an unknown location with the word Ben in its name, Daniel's mother has no idea where he went. At Cathcart Police Station, Sergeant Emma Waterston dispatches teams to travel towards the mountains north of Glasgow, but with so few details of where Daniel has headed, they are unable to focus the search. Police decide to try and focus on finding Daniel’s car as a way of pinpointing which mountain he may be on. His distressed mother tells officers at her house that this is the first time he has not been contactable by phone, and she also believes that he is not well prepared for the mountains, putting added pressure on police to find him before the weather worsens overnight. Concerns grow when the 999 control room sends through a call that may have come from Daniel, stating only that he is lost before cutting out. It now seems likely that Daniel is still on the mountain without a functioning phone and no light to guide him. Local specialist Sergeant Nikki Collison is brought in from Stirling to help direct the search, but even with data from Daniel’s phone now helping to narrow down the location, it still leaves a 75-mile area to search. It is only when Daniel’s car is finally located and new information comes to light that officers can mount a major search operation. But just as a helicopter lifts off to scour the mountain for signs of life, bad weather rolls in and the search is suspended. Whatever has happened to Daniel, it will be dawn before the operation can resume.

The semi-finals continue, and just seven extraordinary home cooks remain.

The semi-finals continue, and just seven extraordinary home cooks remain in the competition. It’s time for them to dig even deeper into their culinary books of tricks, as Anna and Grace are looking to whittle the numbers down once more. They’re aiming to go from seven to just five, so these contestants need to wow the judges like never before. Emotions are no doubt running high at this stage, so it’s only fitting that Anna and Grace have set them an emotional brief. All great food comes from the heart, and the judges would like one dish that is inspired by someone special. As well as emotion, every inch of the plate needs to demonstrate skill, technique and taste sensations that blow the judges away. Mums, dads and aunties are included in the picks, so emotion is guaranteed, but the amateurs will also need to keep those emotions in check for at least one hour and 45 minutes to enable them to deliver the goods. It’s then time for Anna and Grace to taste the semi-finalists' creations and pick the five cooks who have done enough to venture on in the competition. Two cooks are missing out on one of the most exhilarating tasks yet as they head home. The five remaining semi-finalists are whisked off to Whitehall, home to the luxury hotel Raffles London at the Old War Office (OWO), which, as the name suggests, was the former war office for military and secret service operations. The secrets held within its walls were also the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s James Bond, and tonight marks the landmark building’s 120th anniversary. MasterChef’s top agents, judges Grace and Anna, are ready to greet the semi-finalists with a secret mission. The five amateur cooks’ brief is to rustle up an anniversary feast for seven specially invited guests, who all hail from the world of espionage, including Dr Marsha Quallo-Wright, the director of technology futures at GCHQ, and former British intelligence officer Sir Alex Younger, one of the longest-serving chiefs of MI6. To add to the sense of occasion, the menu is prepared in the hotel’s Michelin-starred kitchen, with the amateurs each preparing a dish designed by esteemed chef Mauro Colagreco, who is also running service. Mauro is a true visionary, and his creations, which push boundaries and bring fruit and veg to the fore, have earned him three Michelin stars in France and one at the OWO. The menu has been specially designed by Mauro with an espionage theme, and the contestants need to demonstrate finesse and accuracy beyond anything they have produced before in a setting that is intimidating in itself. The pressure is well and truly on. The five cooks are so close the finals now, but they have a few more hurdles to jump before they get there.

Giving birth in the UK is getting more dangerous; the number of women dying in childbirth is up 20% in the last ten years. Now, in Nottingham, the largest-ever maternity inquiry is underway, reviewing the medical records of thousands of births for signs of avoidable harm. Reporting for Panorama, Michael Buchanan hears powerful testimonies: from mothers who weren’t listened to, staff who blew the whistle but were ignored, and from parents whose babies’ tragic deaths were dismissed as ‘just bad luck’. The programme also hears from the new chief executive of the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, who has promised change. As families unite to demand answers, Panorama investigates how systemic neglect, inadequate staffing and a reluctance to learn from mistakes have led to heartbreak.

  23. 01:15 MasterChef Series 22: Episode 18 R [AD]

The semi-finals reach their end, and this is the most crucial stage of all.

The semi-finals reach their end, and this is the most crucial stage of all. Which four of the five remaining cooks have what it takes to get that coveted place in Finals Week? Anna and Grace have two incredibly demanding tasks up their sleeves, and they want to see glimpses of championship-winning food in all the plates delivered. The judges have invited a true master of his craft to set the first brief, trailblazing pastry chef Philip Khoury, who spent six years working as head pastry chef of Harrods’ famous food hall and redefined baking without using eggs or dairy. Pastry is a field that strikes fear in many professional chefs, never mind amateurs, so the cooks need their wits about them as they are asked to recreate one of Philip’s signature desserts: dawn of a tropical day. Elements of the dessert include a coconut crémeux, mango and lime compote, coconut sponge, whipped coconut cream, a passion fruit gel and chocolate shavings. The semi-finalists need to follow Philip’s recipe to the letter, as every step of the process is integral to success. Technical in the extreme, it’s also unlikely the contestants have created anything similar before, especially a dessert that is totally plant-based. The amateurs have two hours and 15 minutes, which sounds a lot but is just enough time to create something of this magnitude. Will it have the look, taste and level of skill to impress Philip and the judges? Success here might make all the difference when it comes to Anna and Grace’s final judging. The last semi-final challenge is for five cooks to prepare one dish worthy of a MasterChef finalist and a place in the final four. Anna and Grace aren't taking this decision lightly. They’ve invited three esteemed food critics to taste the cook’s creations: Jimi Famurewa, William Sitwell and Xanthe Clay. This dish needs to have every ounce of skill that the cooks can muster and be twinned with flawless execution. Nothing escapes the critics’ and judges’ gazes. Just 90 minutes stand between the amateurs and a place in Finals Week, and nobody wants to miss out on what is quite simply the opportunity of a lifetime. But who has what it takes?

A team of film-makers begin an expedition following two tiger families in Nepal.

In the forests of western Nepal, a team of cinematographers, wildlife guides and a big cat scientist are on a mission to document the lives of tigers in more detail than ever before. The team focus on two tiger mothers, investigating how these solitary big cats are raising cubs on an island full of dangers, including other tigers, rhinos and elephants. When a new male tiger arrives on the island, older tigress Goma must use all her experience to keep her cubs out of harm’s way, whilst first-time tiger mother Mala struggles to deal with the threat, leaving her three cubs in grave danger. Meanwhile, the crew’s investigations seem to be revealing that the tigers on Tiger Island are behaving in ways never seen before, as mother tigers appear to be looking after each other’s cubs. 21. 20:15 Antiques Roadshow Series 49: 2. Treasures of Sport

A roadshow special celebrating the history of sport, with special guests and memorabilia.

To coincide with the World Cup, the roadshow team present a special episode on the theme of sport, celebrating the history of both men’s and women’s football, rugby, cricket, tennis and the Olympics. The episode features interviews with Olympic gold medallist Tessa Sanderson and trailblazing Paralympian Caz Walton, a surprise appearance by Welsh rugby legend Sir Gareth Edwards and the extraordinary story of the ‘Lost Lionesses’, who took part in the unofficial 1971 Women’s World Cup in Mexico. The roadshow team visit some of the UK’s most famous sports grounds, including Lord’s and Wimbledon, and see extraordinary sporting relics, including the shirt worn by Nobby Stiles in the 1966 World Cup and the coin that was tossed at the start of the final. Roadshow experts also see the earliest rules of cricket and the first metal tennis racket, caps from the first rugby internationals and the blazer worn by record-breaking cricketer Betty Snowball, and an Olympic gold medal awarded to a runner who was the only one to take part in his race. We begin with the country’s favourite sport – football. At the historic home of Fulham FC, Craven Cottage, Fiona Bruce meets a collector who not only has the jersey worn by World Cup-winning player Nobby Stiles but also the coin used to start the 1966 World Cup Final that England won 4-2 against West Germany. Moving onto cricket, we travel to Lord’s Cricket Ground, where sports memorabilia expert David Convery gets to see the oldest-known written rules of cricket, dating back to 1727. These are an extremely rare piece of the sport’s history, and he values them at upwards of £300,000. Afterwards, Fiona Bruce investigates another piece of cricket history – the Ashes Urn. From Lord's, we travel to the Stone X Stadium, home of Saracens Rugby Club. Here, Adam Schoon sees a selection of England caps given to some of the first players to represent their country, including one who tragically lost his life in the First World War. We also share an unseen clip from our show in Swansea in 2025, where our expert Ben Rogers-Jones discusses two rugby statues, known as ‘Groggs’. One of them is of the Welsh rugby legend Gareth Edwards, who surprises Ben and the Groggs’ owner when he emerges from the crowd to give his opinion of the statue’s likeness. Next, we join Hilary Kay as she is given exclusive access to the archives under Centre Court at Wimbledon. Here, we learn how the game evolved from its early roots in the gardens of country estates to attracting millions of viewers every year. We see the changing materials used for rackets and discuss how Wimbledon came to be associated with exclusively white clothing. When uncovering stories from the Olympics and Paralympics, we meet four gold medal winners: husband and wife Hugh (cycling) and Anita Porter (swimming), who met on the plane to the 1964 Tokyo Games; multi-discipline Paralympic champion Caz Walton, who attended five separate Summer Games, winning 17 separate medals in that time; and finally, Tessa Sanderson, who shares the story of her 1984 javelin gold medal win at the Los Angeles Olympics, wearing the clothes she competed in over 40 years ago! Finally, we return to Craven Cottage to hear the story of the Lost Lionesses. Siobhan Tyrrell meets players from the unofficial Women’s World Cup, held in Mexico in 1971. Leah Caleb and Gill Sayell were just teenagers when they travelled with the England team to play in front of over 90,000 supporters, having only played in front of handfuls back in the UK. However, on returning home, they were banned from playing for months due to the unofficial nature of the tournament. They wouldn’t discuss their experience for years afterwards, and amongst their kit and equipment, Siobhan hears how this story has finally come to be told.

  25. 22:30 Kevin Bridges: In Search of the Beautiful Game R

Kevin Bridges embarks on a journey to understand whether the beautiful game still exists.

Twenty-eight years since Scotland last qualified for a World Cup, Kevin Bridges embarks on a global journey to understand what football has become, and whether the sport that once brought people together still has beauty at its heart. Kevin starts in Clydebank, where his own love of football began during the 1998 World Cup. Meeting his old pal and Scotland vice-captain John McGinn, Kevin revisits those early memories of jumpers for goalposts and the idea that football could mean something bigger than the game itself. But they also consider how football has changed, and maybe lost some of its soul, prompting Kevin to embark on a journey to find out whether the beautiful game still exists. And where better to find out than the home of Jogo Bonito - Brazil. Kevin meets Daniel, a world champion who has returned to the favelas to coach young players on the pitches that overlook the city. Football here offers an escape and a reason to dream and hope, and the kids play with an ease and creativity born of their surroundings. In São Paulo, Kevin joins a local torcida, one of the fiercely loyal fan collectives whose chants, drums and banners animate Brazilian football. In the space of one day, Kevin experiences both sides of Brazilian passion: the intoxicating unity of the torcida, and the uneasy knowledge that the forces commercialising the sport are already at its gates. At várzea matches played on dirt pitches, Kevin finds that a game unimpeded by the rise of corruption, money and corporate sponsors still exists, even if it is being threatened by property developers. Kevin's final stop is New York City, where contrary to his expectations, the support for football is exploding. He speaks to fans and visits a bar in the morning to witness lines of people round the block waiting to come inside and loudly support Arsenal. Back in Scotland, Kevin reconnects with home and with the next generation of fans. He and John McGinn visit their old school, where young children talk about the Scottish team with the same excitement he once felt, and he understands that the spirit of the game doesn’t disappear, it just moves. Football may have become a global business, but its essence - the sound of kids playing, the heartbeat of a crowd, the belief that anything is possible - remains the same. The beautiful game never left, it’s just harder to hear beneath the noise.

Having removed all the paving, they’re unsure what to do next, but they need a design that can bring harmony to the chaos and create the perfect home for their impressive collection of tropical plants. Barbara, who is originally from Zimbabwe, has a deep love for bold colours, big leaves and fragrant tropical plants that remind her of home. She dreams of a garden that makes sense of the big ferns, banana trees, scented roses and tetra panax she already owns – a vibrant outdoor space that feels like a journey, with winding paths and a new focal point at every turn. She and Tate also long for a cascading water feature, a cosy seating area with a pergola and plenty of visiting birds. Tate and Barbara bought their first home in 2024 after moving from Bristol to Coventry, and they have fallen in love with both their new house and the strong sense of community in their neighbourhood. 21. 21:00 Gareth Southgate: Changing the Game for Young Men

Gareth Southgate confronts the crisis facing boys and young men across Britain.

In this film, former England men’s football manager Gareth Southgate gets to grips with the crisis he feels boys and young men are facing. After a decade working with the country’s brightest footballing talent, he is now turning his attention to a whole generation of boys struggling with school, work, identity and hope. Travelling across the UK, he has honest conversations with young men about how they are feeling and what is really going on in their lives, exploring in detail what is shaping the attitudes and outlook of this generation. Since the pandemic, the number of men aged 16-24 not in education, employment or training has risen by 40 per cent, compared with just 7 per cent among girls. Boys’ GCSE results are suffering. They are twice as likely as girls to be excluded from school and more than three times as likely to die by suicide. At a moment when they most need guidance, young men are now more likely to have a smartphone than a father at home. Gareth wants to move beyond the recent focus on the 'manosphere' and instead concentrate on the everyday struggles many boys and young men face – struggles that are often overlooked in education, employment and family life. Gareth’s journey takes him to Middlesbrough, where he first made his name in management, to meet young men struggling with unemployment; to a secondary school in Essex, to discover how boys are coping with the demands of the current education system; and to a prison, where he speaks with young inmates to explore what really led them into crime. Gareth also explores a range of potential solutions for school, work and beyond: to create meaningful opportunities for young men to learn, experience and build their lives, whatever their background.

  25. 23:10 Reported Missing Series 5: 2. Extortion?

  26. 00:10 Who Do You Think You Are? Series 23: Amy Dowden R [AD][W]

Amy Dowden investigates a rumour of murder in her family history.

Strictly professional dancer Amy Dowden has some family mysteries to solve. Amy knows that her dad’s father, Frank Dowden, was adopted but knows nothing about the family beyond that. She would love to get some answers for her dad. On her mum’s side, there’s a rumour of a murder, but Amy doesn’t have any details – was her ancestor the victim or the perpetrator? Amy starts in west Wales to investigate the murder rumour. She meets her distant cousin Wyn at his home in Ceredigion, where he shows Amy her three-times great-grandfather’s family Bible. Amy sees the name Elinor Jenkins and reads that she was shot dead by the 'cruel man Offley Owen' in November 1888, aged 14. Amy is shocked – who was Elinor? Wyn explains that she was the sister of her great-great-grandmother – Amy’s three-times great aunt – and that she was killed at the nearby Berthlwyd Farm, where she worked as a servant. At the farm, Amy meets historian Dr Angela Muir. They piece together what happened to Elinor through newspaper reports. Elinor was working at the farm with a 17-year-old lad called Offley Owen. A newspaper article reports that Offley showed Elinor his gun, and not realising it was loaded, he shot her. Angela explains that in all cases of suspicious death, an inquest is called. A verdict of manslaughter was recorded, so Offley would be tried in the assizes courts in Carmarthen. In Carmarthen, Amy meets historian Dr Eryn White. She explains that Offley pleaded not guilty and that the prosecution announced they would call no witnesses. Amy is shocked to learn he was discharged. Eryn explains that often in cases like this the court took into account the character and reputation of the perpetrator. Offley was a young man who had never been in trouble with the law. There was also a long-standing tradition in Wales of pursuing mediation and sorting out cases within the community. Amy goes to a church in Blaenpennal, where her three-times great-aunt Elinor was laid to rest, to see if she can find out if there was any closure for the family. Genealogist Eilir Ann Daniels shows Amy an account of Elinor’s funeral. She was remembered ‘as a young person of more than ordinary ability’. Amy is delighted to learn that a valley near the farm where she lost her life is now known as Cwm Nell, or Elinor’s Valley. Amy moves on to her dad’s side of the family. She knows her grandad Frank was adopted as a baby after his mother died, but Amy wonders what the circumstances were and why he was the only one of six children to be given up for adoption. To begin her search, Amy meets historian Dr Laura Rowe, who shows her Frank’s parents Louisa and Bill’s marriage certificate. She’s surprised to discover they married in Bristol in 1907 and even more surprised that it reveals her great-grandmother Louisa was English and not Welsh as she thought. Laura then shows her Bill’s naval service record from World War I. She discovers his dangerous work aboard a minesweeper and is delighted to read an account of a dramatic rescue at sea he was involved with, which earned him mention in letter of commendation from the Admiralty. After the war, Bill returned to New Tredegar and his work in the mines there. Here, Amy meets mining historian Dr Ben Curtis. Ben tells her that Bill returned to mining at a very precarious moment. In an attempt to maximise profits, mine owners pushed wages down, and when the unions refused to accept the new terms, workers were locked out of the mines. For families like Amy’s great-grandfather’s, the impact was devastating. He would have struggled to feed his family of six children. Eventually, after two months of being locked out, the miners ended up accepting terms and went back to work. Amy knows that her great-grandmother Louisa also died around that time and worries what a desperate time it was for the family. She now wants to see if she can find out how Louisa died. Amy searches for Louisa’s death certificate and is shocked when she reads that her great-grandmother died of breast cancer in 1921. Amy herself had breast cancer, as did her mum, but she’s now discovered that breast cancer is also on her father’s side. Medical historian Dr Agnes Arnold-Forster tells Amy that at the time there would have been no hope of a cure for Louisa. Amy speculates that perhaps Bill and Louisa made the decision together to give up Frank, their baby son, for adoption. A census return just a few weeks after Louisa’s death shows that the children were scattered, with the oldest girls living alone in the family home and Bill in Cardiff possibly looking for work. Agnes shows Amy photographs of Louisa and the children. At the church where her great-grandparents are buried, Amy pays her respects. She reflects on how ancestors on both sides of her family have had to face enormous difficulties but have shown strength and resilience moving forward – something Amy feels she’s had to dig deep for in her own.

In this episode, the stakes are high as the drug unit launches a major operation targeting a suspected trafficker linked to an earlier seizure of the deadly drug carfentanyl. Detectives Damon Hollis and Zoenique Williams receive urgent intelligence from US authorities: a man believed to be connected to the case is on a cruise ship heading straight for Bermuda. Carfentanyl is an ultra-potent opioid linked to fatal overdoses worldwide, and there’s real concern about what could be making its way into the island’s drug market. Can the detectives act fast enough to intercept the suspect before it’s too late? As soon as the ship docks, officers detain the American passenger for questioning. No drugs turn up, but a stash of high-value watches and jewellery is seized, the kind of items traffickers often use to move money across borders without carrying cash. With just a 48-hour legal countdown to decide whether charges can be brought, the team heads on board to search the suspect’s cabin. Every piece of evidence is logged, tested and scrutinised. Across the island, PC Jen Suter and PC Rachel Benedict are called to a luxury golf resort after a woman reports her phone has been stolen by her estranged boyfriend. After a few dead-end searches and speaking to staff, the officers begin piecing together the trail. Can they locate the missing phone and return it to its rightful owner? Meanwhile, PC Jonathan Wood and PC Shane Granville respond to a minor collision involving an American tourist on a rental bike – a recurring issue during the busy holiday season. With no injuries, the officers step in to manage the scene, explain local riding rules and help them get safely back on the road. 20. 21:00 Who Do You Think You Are? Series 23: Joe Swash

Joe Swash goes in search of his Italian roots, discovering lawbreaking and a murder.

Joe Swash shot to fame as wheeler dealer Mickey Miller in EastEnders. Since then, he’s won the nation’s hearts in I’m a Celebrity and currently stars in his own reality TV show with his wife, Stacey Solomon, and their kids. Family is everything to Joe. He’s very close to his mum, Kiffy, but sadly lost his dad when he was only 12. Joe knows that his dad’s family were supposed to have come from Italy, but he doesn’t know exactly where or even what their surname was. Joe begins the search for his Italian roots in Islington, London, just around the corner from where he grew up. His mum has given him some documents and photos of his dad’s family, including a marriage certificate for his great-grandparents Charlie Swash and Maria Raimo. Maria is listed as living with her parents, Joe’s great-great-grandparents Giuseppe and Rosa Raimo, in Locks Gardens in Clerkenwell, an area known as Little Italy. Joe learns from guide Rob Smith that it was an impoverished area, but subsequent records chart Giuseppe’s life as he learns a trade as a street piano player before eventually becoming a piano tuner. Cultural historian Annemarie McAllister explains how Giuseppe was improving life for him and his family. She then shows him an intriguing newspaper clipping. It lists Joe’s great-great-grandfather talking at a meeting in Grenault Place alongside the famous suffragette Sylvia Pankhurst. At Grenault Place, Joe meets historian Alfio Bernabei. Alfio explains that Sylvia Pankhurst was involved in the Communist Workers Movement and was very concerned about the rise of Mussolini and fascism in Italy during the 1920s. Giuseppe was speaking alongside Pankhurst at an anti-fascist meeting. He was taking risks, as he would have witnessed the violence of London-based Italian Black Shirts at this time. Alfio shows Joe another newspaper, from 1923, containing a letter from Giuseppe, a poetic piece that condemns the rise of fascism. Joe is moved. He knows that his great-great-grandfather was illiterate and so would have had to dictate this letter, but the language and passion reveal a compassionate and intelligent man. Joe knows Giuseppe was born in Italy and now wants to know where in the country his family was from. He goes to Hertfordshire to meet John, a distant relative. Giuseppe was John’s great-grandfather, and he has a copy of Giuseppe’s passport. It reveals his place of birth to be Senerchia in the province of Avellino, southern Italy. Joe flies to Naples in search of his Raimo roots. Naples was the nearest port to Senerchia, so there is every chance this is where Giuseppe left from. Joe’s next stop is the state archives in Avellino, where he’s meeting genealogist Joe De Simone. He has managed to trace Joe’s family back another three generations to his five-times great-grandparents. They seem to have been living as peasants in Senerchia, but there is an intriguing reference to his three-times great-grandfather Donato being detained in Avellino jail in 1867. To see if he can find out what Donato had done, Joe goes to Senerchia. Here he meets Professor Giampaolo Lecce, who tells him that Donato was on trial for supplying weapons and ‘associating with wrongdoers’. Giampaolo goes on to explain that Italy was only unified in 1861, and that it had previously been a series of self-governing city states. Many Italians were opposed to this new regime, and brigands in the south led a wave of rebellion. Some people saw the brigands as heroes, others as nothing more than bandits. Many villagers, like Joe’s ancestor, either willingly helped the brigands or were coerced into it. Joe then discovers that his five-times great-grandfather had actually been killed by the brigands and wonders if this meant his family were helping them under duress. The trial records reveal that Donato was indeed acquitted, with the family murder given as mitigating evidence. Joe wants to find out if there are any Raimos left in the area, and he has heard there may be some in the next village. Trying out his basic Italian, Joe asks around and eventually finds a bar called Raimo, which is run by a Raimo. He has a drink with his newly discovered relative and then heads back to Senerchia. Joe De Simone has been in touch to say he’s found out the street where the family lived – Via Vallone – which translates as road by the river at the bottom of the valley. In this beautiful spot by the river, Joe reflects on all the Raimos that came before him, from Donato, who fought to stay out of prison, to Giuseppe, who made a life for himself in London and spoke out against fascism alongside Sylvia Pankhurst. Joe hopes that some of that tenacity and strength has been passed down to him.

  23. 22:40 England 2006: The Golden Generation

Why did the England football team not fulfil their potential at the 2006 World Cup?

The summer of 2006 was meant to be England’s moment. With David Beckham as captain, Wayne Rooney the prodigious young star, Rio Ferdinand anchoring a world-class defence and Sven-Goran Eriksson leading England into his third World Cup, belief was everywhere. In an era when celebrity culture was exploding, the hype was relentless. From packed pubs to front-page headlines, the tournament became a shared national obsession. So why did England’s World Cup dream end in on-field agony and off-field acrimony? Through the voices of those at the heart of it, this landmark documentary revisits a World Cup that still provokes disbelief and debate. Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole, Owen Hargreaves and goalkeeper Paul Robinson reflect on the pressure they faced and why a star-studded squad unravelled on football’s biggest stage. In Germany, football collided with fame, Baden-Baden became party central, and the England camp lived under unprecedented scrutiny. Assistant manager Steve McClaren, chief WAG Nancy Dell’Olio and showbusiness reporters reveal how celebrity access, tabloid proximity and off-field distraction – driven by the attention on figures such as Victoria Beckham, Cheryl Cole, Coleen Rooney and Abbey Clancy – seeped into daily life, altering the mood inside the camp and intensifying pressure on players already struggling to perform. On the pitch, selection controversies and tactical uncertainty fuelled mounting tension. Rooney speaks candidly about his injury battles, his red card and that infamous wink from Cristiano Ronaldo – a moment that came to symbolise England’s growing sense that control was slipping away. Ferdinand and Cole describe how club cliques and fractured relationships further eroded unity when it mattered most. This documentary captures the moment when football, fame and the media collided, and asks why England’s most gifted collection of players could never live up to the name. From Baden-Baden’s bars to Rooney’s red mist, this is the story of one of England’s most memorable World Cups – for all the wrong reasons.
